Growing up- l do not remember anyone who had a picture perfect house..... now all my friends are striving for house that look like furniture store ads. Sometimes l just wanna throw out everything and start again to get that look. My mother says it is insane and does not understand why people do not have normal house- mix of stuff old and new.... things that do not matchy matchy.... just were ''normal'' people live as she so puts it.
What does your house look like?

Mine is a ''normal'' house but we are staging it to sell, so l am making it look like a furniture store ad right now. LOL

l think a real house is ''lived in'' home. Your mom is right, a blend of old & new. l like looking at pictures of ''perfect'' homes because it gives me inspiration but l still do everything my own way. Your house should reflect who u r not what u think u should be. But, since u r trying to sell, u r better off making it look like an advertisement. Remove all clutter & personal affects because it will be more appealing & spacious looking for potential buyers. Once u r in ur new home, u can let loose.

Our house looks like a cross between Pottery Barn and Borders.

Growing up l always accused my mom of wanting the ''Soap Opera'' house, matching furniture, always immaculately clean, even if there r wood planks over ur windows. Now l live in a normal house 4 children, youngest r 3 & 1, my house looks lived in & the furniture definitely does not match. l made a choice, great looking house or great kids & family ( l think l made the best choice of the two). Of course, no matter how clean my house is, my mom still thinks it is messy.

Nah, mine usually looks like a tornado went through since my daughter moved back home with her two kids. we have too much furniture, and absolutely NOTHING matches. My living room alone has 2 sofas, 1 chair, 3 fish tanks,on stands, 2 televisions( one for watching tv and the other for video games and 4 small tables.

Here here. My house looks really ''normal''. l have two toddlers ages 4 & 2 & 2 dogs, 2 cats & a husband. l stay at home & as soon as l clean or pick up one of the above gets it back to ''normal''. However, l grew in ''normal l think that if ur house matches too much it is kinda creepy. l mean where do u relax, have fun & just appreciate ur family. As another post said l think l have made the right choice. Now as my kids r getting older l find that l would like to have a neater appearance & be more organized. That will all come in time, & even though my house will be neater in the future, l have the same approach to new & old stuff mixed together.

Do not go overboard on the ''staging''. It looks good on the internet pictures but if it is too much like a furniture store ad it turns people off when they actually are in the house. It is too cold.
