I am having a little an answer on this subject. I am currently renting a home in MI, from a friend of the family. In July, l had found out they had foreclosed on their home. l was not given any heads up for forewarning. Now the home owner is trying to collect money from m again, because they ''still have to pay for taxes and insurance''. I am not exactly sure if this is true, but before l pay them, l wanted to know ... If you foreclose on a home, and it was sold at an auction of sheriffs Deed, if your still responsible for taxes during the ''redemption'' period. The problem is that, the homeowner is family. We never made an arrangement to pay taxes, or insurance just rent. They did not inform us about foreclosure, until the bank came to our house.
The house was auctioned in August, and the homeowner DOES NOT want it back, but in Ml theres a redemption period, where the homeowner (or tenants) have 6 months to purchase, pay back, and reside in the property. They dont wanna purchase it back, but they're telling us they still owe taxes and insurance (since l REFUSE to pay rent)

It is not your responsibility in any case. If you are still occupying the house, you have to pay rent. If you are not, you owe nothing. The taxes and insurance are not your responsibility.

NO. it belongs to someone else now, and NO they cannot collect your rent money. Nice try, sly. but wo not work. This is illegal actually and if the credit company that repossessed the house knew about it, they would be a little upset.

l am not sure what your arrangement is with your friend that, as a renter, you have to help him pay the taxes. It sounds bizarre. Renters are not responsible for anything over and above the rent they've agree to.
As far as the owner, to redeem the home after the auction, he is normally required to pay all past due amounts and any current due amounts. In other words, yes, he would have to bring the taxes current to get the home back.
