l just purchase a condo in Virginia.It turns out the drainage pipe for all the units above mine had a hole letting water run out into my unit.l finally got the condo accociation/developer to realize what the problem was. They contacted a plumber to come repair the problem.Now the condo association forwarded a letter with the plumbers invoice saying l own them money because the plumber replaced the trap in my condo.

l never approved or asked that the trap be replaced.It seems to be that they are filing a false claim for uncontracted labor.They are threating to put a lien on the property if l do not pay.

Is this fair or legal?

who was authorized to approve repairs? Did you sign any work orders regarding any repairs or was it the condo company? If the plumber made unauthorized repairs, then they should not be paid. if you had the plumber do work for you because he was already there doing other repairs for the condo company, then you are responsible for said repairs.

If replacing the trap in your unit was part of the larger job and necessary to complete the repair or to stop your plumbing from becoming another condo problem, l would think that you are stuck paying it.

l replaced the trap under my sink. It was a simple job and the part did not cost much.

You have many issues here. Who is responsible for repairs, Who can order repairs, even a possible Failure to Disclose against the Realtor and Previous Owner since this problem had to be occurring prior to your purchase.

Go see an attorney that specializes in real estate in your area.

You do not seem to indicate they charged you for everything, just a portion. You asked for a fix. Apparently, some portion of that fix is your responsibility. If you say ''stop the drainage'' l would not expect the plumber to give many options, he would either do what was necessary or not.
