It is me and my twin brother and we need a dependable vehicle of our own. l was approved for a Mazda but with $5000 down. How is that approval l asked my dad and he just does not answer me at all. l had a KIA Spectra when l lived with my parents that WE PAYED for EVERY MONTH! l have had my job for two years now and my twin has had his for 1 year. The only thing holding us back is lack of credit it is to new. With the Economy being as bad as it is l do not see any banks approving us at all. This is depressing because we have school and work.
When l ask my grandma for help she says this is ''character building'' wth?

Even in today is economy it is probably easier to get credit from a bank than to find a stranger who will co-sign for you. If you can not afford $5000 down you might have to settle for whatever you can afford to pay cash for.

Buy a used car that you can afford rather than a brand new car.

Your Grandma is right. Why should she cosign a loan for you? That puts her on the hook to pay for your car if you don't.

Better to drive a beat up car that you paid for than a nice one that leaves you beholden to someone else. That does build character and provides you with self respect.
