Because of the credit crunch and as l am self employed and a single mother, l have fallen behind on the rent payments on my flat. l wanna move out after being here 5 months, but in my contract it says l can only move out after 8 months. l can not afford to live here though!Is there any legal loophole or anything l can do? Someone please help.
This is why I am upset, as l asked the estate agency to issue me a year contract with 6 month get out clause, they said yes so l signed the contract.Looking at the contract now, it is 8 months with 2 months previous notice period, so l would have to give 2 months notice at 6 months.l think this is really unfair as l requested a6 month one and had no idea that they would put 2 months on top of it!

No. If you move you are still liable for the rent for the term of the lease.

You can try talking to ur landlord & come to an agreement ..

l suggest that u tell him u r willing to move out immediately IF he agrees to 'write off' all that u owe him ..

You MAY have to suggest or hint at the alternative .. .

i.e. what is to stop u staying out put & paying (say) half the rent now & promising to pay the other half 'later' ??

Sure, he could spend the next year or two trying to get a Court Order to evict a single mum (who is still paying at least some of the rent) but would not he be a lot better off with a new Tenant ??

Are you on a fixed term tenancy? if so when are the dates from, eight months is a unusual term.
