l live in an apartment complex, l came home from work today and there were people in my apartment with my door opened. They were painting the front doors, but we were never told this was going to be done. can they do that ??? its not like l rent from someones home its an actual comlex

They are supposed to give you notice when they are going to open your door, but yes, they are entitled to maintain the property. Here is how to protect yourself:

Install a lock on a drawer in your bureau, or install a lock on a closet door, and keep your valuables locked away when you are not home. Better yet, get a safe deposit box if you have jewelry and other small items that can easily be lifted.

Short answer, no. They are supposed to give you reasonable notification that they are going to enter your apartment, this can me any amount of time, but usually means 1 day is notice. This is unless you have complained about a problem. Your complaint gives them license to enter the property on their schedule, but that is usually limited to between 7 AM and 7 PM, unless other arrangements have been made.

Although l am not an attorney (yet) or a real estate agent, l would be shocked if they can do that. l do not know where u live, but in Florida (and l would suppose in pretty much any state), this is covered in landlord-tenant statutes. It is not a matter of ''supposed to provide notice.'' At least in Florida, landlords r REQUIRED to give notice.

An owner does not have the right to simply walk in on a tenant.you r paying for the right to possess the property when u sign a lease. This is certainly the case for houses, & l do not see why it would be different for apartment buildings. Unless it is an emergency, u r entitled to receive notice before a landlord may enter ur property. l would still look at the law in the state in which u live though.

You need to look at your rental agreement most places require 24 hr notice before they are going to enter your place.

l do not think they should have done that without giving you 24 hours notice.

Contrary to what others have posted.not ALL states require a ''notice to enter''. Check your local laws.
