l am looking into an apartment. l was curious some people have told me when you go to move into an apartment it is First/Last months rent and the deposit. So in other words l would have to have around 1500-1800 to move into an apartment?

You will have to check in with ur potential landlord. Each building & building attendant have different rules for first & last months rent, as well as utility costs, parking etc. My boyfriend for instant had his first months rent free, has all utilities included with rent & does not have to pay for parking because he did not request a parking spot. Just call whoever is offering u the room & they can give u the specific details!

It is true that it is common for a place to ask for first & last months rent ahead of time though, & some places have deposits. My boyfriends did not though.

l just moved into an apartment about two months ago. It really depends on your credit score. l am in college so l had to get a Guarantor. That way we only had to pay first months rent (780) and a security deposit (around 400). Most of the other aparments we looked into were about the same. l have not seen one that wanted first and last. Good luck!

It depends. You may want to shop around. Sometimes you will find move in specials. No matter what keep your receipt and documents and take pictures of any and all defects so you have a chance of getting your deposit back when you vacate. Landlords can be sneaky when closing time comes. l have had one building sold three times while l rented it and l lost my deposit. My current condo has been under two different owners and l have my documents this time.

State laws vary as to the maximum that can be required. In my state (MA), it is first, last, & security, plus a rekeying fee. Other states allow a pet deposit. But that is the maximum, they can require less. If u have that, u will be OK. You might also need to have deposits to get the utilities turned on, depending on ur credit history.

Remember that u will get the deposit back at the end if u leave the place as u found it, so take pictures of the place before u move in. (Especially the kitchen & bathroom appliances & fixtures. Put a current newspaper in the pictures to prove the date.)

Of course, in MA, the apartments r expensive so it could easily be 6K total.
